Twisted Poetry

Poetry is a beautiful thing. I read it. I write it. I hear it. I recite it. But when rhythm and rhyme are used in a negative message, poetry chills me to the bone. As a child I could not hear Rock-a-Bye Baby without cringing. And when I had a child, I didn’t sing or read him nursery rhymes. Three Blind Mice; Wee Willie Winkie; Diddle, Diddle Dumpling, even Humpty Dumpty–all were off limits. He heard them from others, on television, and in books, but not from me. It was, and is, too frightening. And the more repetition I hear, the more trapped I feel. I feel physically and emotionally restrained, helpless, and horrified. All I can do is hold on until it passes, until the poetry stops, then deal with the cold sweat that sometimes results. It is one of my favorite things, poetry, working against me in a cruel twist of rhyming, rhythmic fate.

Nature’s poetry
twisted and mangled in death
is this beauty too?

For NaPoWriMo day 17, a Haibun for Toni’s “fear” prompt at
dVerse.

Easter Day

Shouting, touting all the way,
“Christ is risen! Bless this day!”

Whirling, swirling everywhere,
Awe-inspiring breaking day.

All have come and few have seen
Glory on this joyous day.

But suddenly the crowd believes,
Claiming for their own this day.

Stranger things were never seen
By those who follow every day.

Many who would not believe
Brim with faith and hope this day.

“Christ is risen!” ringing out
On this longed-for wondrous day.

Whether now or then or when,
May we bless this Easter day!

This is a ghazal, a strangely haunting Arabic/Persian/English form. Today is NaPoWriMo day 16, and this was day 13’s prompt at napowrimo.net. Read more about the ghazal

Christ is risen!

He is risen, indeed!

Quotations from The Holy Bible, New King James Version (NKJV)

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
–John 11:25-26

For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
–Philippians 1:21

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.
–Philippians 2:5

I Am the Life – Lyrics

(Capo 1)

1. Dying to ourselves so we may come to live,
Accepting all the life that Christ alone can give,
Let the mind in us be the mind that was in him,
For Jesus said:
Refrain:

2. Jesus sacrificed so everyone may live,
When we pledge our lives, it’s the least that we can give,
Trading passing things for the greatest joy in him,
For Jesus said:
Refrain:

3. Everlasting life is not for just a few,
It belongs to everyone believing in the Truth,
Christ alive within is the resurrected proof,
For Jesus said:
Refrain: (Twice)

I am the life!

Refrain:
I’m the resurrection,
And I am the life.
If you believe in me,
You live even though you die.
And if you believe,
You will never die in me.
You will live, live, live, live,
For I give, give, give, give
Eternal life,
I am the life!

Arise!

High recognitions . . . The physical body of the Redeemer

This is in alignment with Metaphysical Science teachings, New Thought and its various denominations, Metaphysical Bible interpretation, The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ, and ideas supporting this spiritual philosophy and way of life.

At this time of year, Christians celebrate Easter with the physical resurrection of Jesus as being one of main doctrines of the religion of Christianity. The reality is however that the “Resurrection” of Jesus was a Natural Process NOT a miracle.

The “real” person is not the physical body but the spirit within.

Simply put the the ethereal body of Jesus passed on to the other side due to the execution/murder of his physical body.

It was the ethereal body of the Risen Christ that the disciples and other blessed ones were able to see.. …

If an earthly gross material body was able ascend into a higher realm of another world then by the same logic the earthly body could also DESCEND to the earth without having to go through the process of a earthly birth.
Such things are impossible and against the perfect Natural Laws that govern existence.

The Easter Egg Hunt

If you received this post by email, click the URL to hear this song.

I wrote a Christ-centered Easter song, of course. You’ll hear that tomorrow! But when I mentioned Easter songs, someone asked if it was about a chocolate egg. It wasn’t, at that point, but I couldn’t resist. This is a cautionary tale… May your Easter egg hunt be a happy one!

1. This is the tale of an Easter egg hunt
That did not end very well.
Tommy and Tina were looking for eggs
And had a sad story to tell.
They tried and they tried, but they could not find
An egg that hid in the grass.
And later that year it was perfectly clear,
The time for that egg had passed.

2. This is the tale of an Easter egg hunt.
Oh yes, there’s more to share.
Some of those eggs, they had chocolate inside,
So sweet and rich and rare.
Tommy and Tina, they found all the eggs.
And oh the joy they felt!
Chocolate on chocolate on chocolate eggs!
And then they started to melt.

3. This is the tale of an Easter egg hunt,
And if you really must ask it,
The moral is sure. It’s so simple and pure:
Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.

Easter Bunny

A fast and furious egg-toting fiend,
Giving kids chocolate and going unseen.
Do you really think we believe this stuff?
It’s only the marketing holding you up!

For day 15 of NaPoWriMo, I used yesterday’s prompt at napowrimo.net: Write a Clerihew. It’s a satirical poem about a famous person… or character. You can read 2 more

Lenten Mischief

For Lent we’re giving up the giving up
And sacrificing sacrifices due.
We’re pouring out the pouring of the cup,
Uncorking every cork to try the fumes.

But drinking now is not a drinking binge;
It’s taking for the taking of a rest.
For those controlling self-control to win
Have not the need to have not all the best.

So give up all your giving up I say,
But keep your learning learned, as well you should.
When breaking free at breaking of the day,
You moderate in moderation good.

Lent helps us as a fast, we fast forget,
But from the wine and wining of regret!

—
A Sonnet for NaPoWriMo day 14, with no disrespect to all those–myself included–who made Lenten sacrifices!

When we choose next year’s Lenten activities, let’s remember to fast from things that truly harm us, things like gossip, self-criticism, complaining, defensiveness, and other negative mental, emotional, and spiritual behaviors, as well as physical things.

The Cost of Good Health

My body is aching
My mind is lost…
But I’ll get them back
No matter the cost.

‘Cause this isn’t something
I do by myself.
It’s the Power of God
Restoring my health!

And when I’m not sleeping,
I know what to do,
Reach deep in my heart
For the Spirit that soothes.

I know that the gifts
Of body and mind
Belong to me only
A limited time.

And so may I use them
To brighten each day
And let in the Spirit
Who shows me the way.

My body is aching
My mind is lost…
And I get them back
‘Cause God pays the cost!

It’s day 12 of NaPoWriMo. Apologies for missing yesterday. I lay down for 5 minutes at 8:00 p.m. And woke up at 1:00 a.m. for a short time. Clearly, I didn’t realize how much I needed sleep!

Pour out Your Presence

Refreshing Rain

A pattering, sprinkling drizzle at first,
Becoming a torrent, a downpour that burst
From clouds of the fluffiest, puffiest kind,
Restoring my body, renewing my mind;
My heart, an oasis, is blessed from above,
To blossom and grow in the rain of your love.
