Haiku: Holy Breath, States Matter, Dove, Pinwheel

Four modern, mystical haiku. They may not hold to the true Japanese form of beautiful, brief poetry. But they are written to be spiritual and about nature – sometimes the natural world, sometimes human nature. Like my
Limericks collection,
these are reminders of Cosmic Consciousness or God.

Holy Breath

Taking your first breath
Birth, love you don’t remember
Still what’s true is true

States Matter

Solid, liquid, gas
Ice, Water, steam; earth, sea, sky
Energy transforms

Dove

Coo, coo, soft and sweet
The dove soars, strong, free, complete
That Spirit is yours

Pinwheel

Spinning sun with rays
A beanstalk from Earth to Sky
WHIRRR! The first pinwheel

Of Mankind, Marketing, and Mischief

The continued collection of spiritually oriented
Limericks. 🙂

There was once a young man of Bel Air
Who saw no one to love and to care.
But he found out all right
In the darkest of night
What he asked for was given in prayer.

“If you follow our plan to the letter,
You’ll become a rich, happy go-getter!”
This is really a trap
Set to market more lack;
For you God has a plan that is better!

There was once a young girl of a creed
Who was happily stringing some beads
In a circle they wound
And so came back around
To her home where she’d sown every deed.

We do not boil water to freeze
Or plant carrots and hope to grow peas.
How much worse for the soul
When we “take all control”
And expect God to follow our lead!

“Unloved”

From the time I was born,
I’ve experienced all the human feelings and emotions
Except one.

I’ve been
Well and ill;
Happy and sad;
Joyous and depressed;
Safe and in danger;
Secure and shaken;
Anxious and relieved;

I’ve felt
Befriended and rejected;
Heard and ignored;
Understood and left out;
Accepted and misjudged;
Seen and overlooked;
Lonely and connected;

But through every bit
Of this human experience,
I have never truly felt

Unloved!

By God
I have always been,
I am in this moment,
And I will be forever

Loved!

Shifting Sands

The means change
As blowing wind

The path winds
Like a river

The “how” flows
As the moving tide

And all along the purpose is, through Love,
To see the good below, that is above!

The way turns
In the wheel of the year

Rhythms change
As Nature evolves

The journey deepens
A spiraling shape

And all along the purpose is, through Life,
To rediscover Oneness and to thrive!

Houses collapse
Destroyed in moments

People pass
Like ships in the night

Lives quake –
Identities ruined

And all along the purpose is, in Peace,
To learn that God is all there is to keep!

And all along the purpose is, through Life,
To rediscover Oneness and to thrive!

And all along the purpose is, through Love,
To see the good below, that is above!

Instrumental You

You’ve* a body, voice, and strings –
Vocal cords to speak and sing,

Breath of life that fills you up,
Open hands that make a cup;

Yet You’re* more than all your parts:
You are God within your heart!

When you work or play or rest,
By His Love You are Your best!

Heaven made and heaven sent,
You’re the Father’s instrument!

Let the song of Love that frees
Ring through You eternally!
Amen.

*You (unless capitalized at the beginning of a sentence) means the inner, mystical You that is at one with God. In lower case, you refers to your physical being on earth.

Mental Attitude: In Limericks

Short forms, sometimes called micropoetry, can serve as reminders of right thinking and more than that, of the reality that we are spiritual beings first and foremost. And little poems are fun! 🙂

O the feeling of having no luck
And of being run down by a truck!
But there is a way thru
What to think and to do
Is decide that you’ll put on some pluck!

There’s a time and a place for the rules
And a purpose for those we call fools.
There’s a cage for the stressed
And a stage for the blessed.
Is it bars or the stars that you choose?

All the creatures are God’s, even mice,
And the people you don’t think are nice.
Speak and act with his grace
When you’re feeling distaste:
What you give, you get back at least twice!

Eternal Pie

The slices of the pie
Are seconds of your life,
They’re areas you see,
And places where you strive.

But narrowing the whole,
You only see a part,
A tiny piece of pie,
A sliver just to start…

A start and that is all;
The pie of life is grand!
It serves the Universe
And fills each outstretched hand.

The pie to end all pies,
Eternity of God,
Is sliced up into bits…:
YOU choose the slice you got!

You choose and choose again
The slices that you want.
Eternity is here;
The pie is yours to cut!

Seasons of Song

Born on a late Fall evening;
Told I could grow and fly.
Fingers and wings were strengthened;
That’s when I learned to cry.

Resting in Winter’s snowstorms,
Darkness so wide and deep…
There was a star to follow,
Waking my heart from sleep.

Blooming as buds in Springtime,
Reaching up toward the sun,
Knowing I had the Spirit;
Letting God’s music run.

All Summer long together,
Everything dry and bright.
Fires were quenched and started,
Flings of the dying light.

Fall is again upon us,
Breezes that warn of chill;
Mind, body, soul transforming…
Cycles within His will!

Threads of Creativity

I want to write a poem,
But all I can do is play –
I play with words,
I play with music;
I play with threads.

And it feels good.
I warp;
I weave.
I un-weave.
I’ve even un-warped a time or two.

But I always warp again,
Setting up a new frame of reference.
And I weave some more,
Entwining thread after thread…
Over…
Under…
Over…
Under…

Weaving a life,
A picture,
A song.

Is it threads?
Or is it words?
Or is it notes?

It doesn’t matter.
It’s all rhythm,
All energy,
All thought,
All creativity,
Vibrating and singing through me.

I want to write a poem.
But I can’t.
All I can do is weave one.
And so I do.
