Seasons for the Spirit: The Spice of Life

Seasons for the Spirit: The Spice of Life

by Frederick Douglass Grimes, III

Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall,
These are the Seasons in which we live.
It may be hard to tell
Which Season best describes each one of us.

Some of us may relate better to the Winter season:
Cold, callous, selfish uncaring;
Building walls so no one can enter,
But at the same time
Not building any bridges either…
Such a shame!

Some may better relate to the Spring season:
Happy, full of life, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed;
Ready to take on the world,
Cheerful personality, always greeting folks with a smile!

Or are you better matched with the good old Summertime:
Hot, spicy, ready to drop it like it’s hot;
The typical party animal,
Setting the world on fire!

Or does the Fall season best suit you as a person:
Laid back, calm, peaceful;
Just letting the world go by
Without a care!

But there are other seasonings in life also.
Just as one would season their food for the right taste,
It can’t hurt to season your life to fit the perfect you!

Dealing in your own life always takes time,
But when you have the right herbs and spices,
One can never go wrong.

Whatever season best fits you,
Always remember to take a little time
To add some flavor to your life!

God bless always!

  1. “Add some flavor to your life!” Love this idea! Although I must add, I think of Winter’s child as the one who likes to snuggle, share a hot chocolate with marshmallow foam that sticks to your upper lip, while reading a good book, staying toasty warm under grandma’s afghan! 😊

  2. I like the idea of the seasonings fitting the season and it seems like that’s what the word is based on. Never thought of it that way before. Remembering to add and knowing how much to add is good advice.

  3. Wonderful poem. Never compared my personality to a season, especially when seasons here so much are seasoned with an array of spices, they intermingled with each other. I like finding the right seasonings to fit your life.

  4. There are times that I find myself, between all seasons, except summer (just my introverted nature), depending on my mood of that given day. And yes, Lillian, I so agree with you, about the Winter soul person.
