Merry Christmas and a happy celebration of Light to everyone, everywhere!

Birth of Christ

There were sheepherders camping in the neighborhood. They had set night watches over their sheep. Suddenly, God’s angel stood among them and God’s glory blazed around them. They were terrified. The angel said, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here to announce a great and joyful event that is meant for everybody, worldwide: A Savior has just been born in David’s town, a Savior who is Messiah and Master. This is what you’re to look for: a baby wrapped in a blanket and lying in a manger.”
At once the angel was joined by a huge angelic choir singing God’s praises:
Glory to God in the heavenly heights,
Peace to all men and women on earth who please him.
–Luke 2:8-14 The Message (MSG)

And when the child of promise came, a man in snow-white robe appeared to them, and they fell back in fear. The man stood forth and said, Fear not! behold I bring you joyful news. At midnight in a cave in Bethlehem was born the prophet and the king that you have long been waiting for. And then the shepherds all were glad; they felt that all the hills were filled with messengers of light, who said, All glory be to God on high; peace, peace on earth, good will to men.
–Aquarian Gospel 3:10-13

Love Is Born!

Instrument: Brio – Red Cedar Concert Ukulele

Refrain:
Sing hosanna! Go bananas!
‘Cause Love is born in this world today!
Share the Sun with everyone,
And lift your heart in praises to the One who lights the way!

1. There’s a Light in this world
That everybody sees
When we put aside the fruits of pride
And let our difference be!
And the Perfect One,
The Precious Sun,
Is born in every human heart
To love and set us free!
Refrain:

2. Maybe you have heard
The Bible’s Word
Of Christ the Lord who came so poor
To make us rich indeed!
Or you could take
Another way;
It doesn’t matter, Love has come
To fill our every need!
Refrain:

3. If the All is One
And One is All,
Then how could Spirit come to some
And let the others fall?
Now your path is bright
With brilliant Light:
The Power of the Universe
Is Love to great and small!
Refrain: (Twice)

Sing hosanna!
And lift your heart in praises to the One who lights the way!

Top 5 Things I Learned from Writing Christmas Cards

This post is a big deal, not because my hand hurts from writing, but because this is the first year I’ve given Christmas cards. I know some people and families who do it every year; I’ve even received some of these cards myself. But I’ve never taken the time to choose them, write them, seal them snuggly in envelopes, put names on them, and send them out into the world to bless others. After this experience I have only one question… Why did I wait so long?

Top 5 Things I Learned from Writing Christmas Cards

5. I have more friends than I thought! And not just a few–with each card written, I thought of another one I could have written.

4. The message sent through your heart and hands is always just the right one.

3. You, unwrapped, unfiltered, undivided, are always the greatest gift!

2. Peace is tangible: You touch it every time you touch someone else.

1. The cost is minimal, while the love is priceless!

So write your Christmas or other holiday (or no holiday!) cards with joy, because that joy will return to sender many times over!

These are the Days

“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”
–Attributed to Mahatma Gandhi

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
–Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)

Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
–Matthew 7:12 (NKJV)

No one, regardless of background, race, culture, gender, politics, religion, or other aspects of personal identity, can deny that we need love, light, and peace now! And it’s easy to blame their apparent lack on others! However, at some point we must each take responsibility for our own inner environment. The saying, “Charity begins at home,” also applies to love, light, and peace. They also begin at home–within ourselves.

Instrument: Brio – Red Cedar Concert Ukulele

Refrain:
[‘Cause] These are the days of Love;
These are the days of Light!
These are the days of Peace,
So make them the days of your life!

1. You cannot see it now, can you?
If you wonder how, stand firm and true!
Be the Love you need,
Shine the Light you seek;
Give the Peace to bring you through!
Refrain:

2. You cannot do without, can you?
People all around, so sorry and blue.
Be the Love that knows,
Shine the Light that glows;
Give the Peace to change the view!
Refrain:

3. But you cannot heal, can you?
The compassion you feel is the Spirit of Truth!
Be the Love of Christ,
Shine His brilliant Light,
Give the Peace your heart wants too!
Refrain: (Twice)

These are the days of your life!

Mountain of the Lord

Isaiah 2:1-3,5 (NKJV)

Now it shall come to pass in the latter days
That the mountain of the Lord’s house
Shall be established on the top of the mountains,
And shall be exalted above the hills;
And all nations shall flow to it.
Many people shall come and say,
“Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
To the house of the God of Jacob;
He will teach us His ways,
And we shall walk in His paths.”
For out of Zion shall go forth the law,
And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
O house of Jacob, come and let us walk
In the light of the Lord.

The Mountain of the Lord

Mystically understood, the Lord’s mountain is a meditative state, a place of Higher Consciousness. It rises above the hillsides, the height, of everyday awareness to something greater. And it is for everyone, for all nations, all people, not just a chosen few. The mountain of the Lord is always present, and we can climb it, learn his ways, and walk in his light in our daily lives.

Mountain of the Lord – Lyrics

Instrument: Tempo – Seagull Excursion Folk Acoustic Guitar

Refrain:
*”Come!
Let us go up (3x)
Up to the mountain of the Lord!
Repeat from *.

1. His house is greatest,
His mountain highest,
And every nation shall flow to it, saying,
Refrain:

2. There on his mountain,
His ways he teaches,
And every nation shall flow to it, saying,
Refrain:

3. His mountain rises
Above the hillsides,
And every nation shall flow to it, saying,
Refrain: (Twice)

Up to the mountain of the Lord!
“Come!
Let us go up (3x)

Lost Heart

I cannot find my heart
In the hustle and bustle and hassle and rustle…
Though it’s not even Christmas, I fear!
I cannot find my heart
In illusion, confusion, profusion, delusion,
For its voice is too quiet to hear.

In the silence I wait,
When I can remember,
And call to the Spirit inside.
I cannot find my heart
Unless I am seeking
Rediscovering what’s always been mine.

“I am cold, even though the heat of early summer is adequate. I am cold because I cannot find my heart.” ~Sebastian Barry from his novel A Long, Long Way

Blink! And now it’s going, going.
Look inside you, knowing, knowing
All the joy of Life
This world cannot provide.
It’s in the Light of Christ!
Refrain:

2. Feelings are a picture, a picture.
Oops! But not a fixture, fixture.
Find beyond the mixture, mixture
All the joy of Life
This world cannot provide.
It’s in the Light of Christ!
Refrain:

3. Experience is charming, charming.
Boom! And so alarming, alarming
When you think it’s harming, harming
All the joy of Life
This world cannot provide.
It’s in the Light of Christ!
Refrain: (Twice)

Refrain:
Christ is come, born in you,
That you may have joy,

All Because of Love – Advent Week 3

In Metaphysics/Mysticism Christmas celebrates the birth of Christ within each of us. It is an inner experience that, whether quickly or slowly to our perception, creates lasting outer changes. We use daily meditation as a tool for becoming more conscious of Christ-within.

In short, we celebrate the inner meaning of the outer Christmas story. We can still enjoy Christmas carols and other traditions! Because underlying each one is the joyful birth of our own Christ Mind awareness.

I illustrate this, and Christ as Love, with this song and scripture.

John 1:1-17 (KJV)

Bold added for Emphasis

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

All Because of Love – Lyrics

Instrument: Brio – Red Cedar Concert Ukulele

1. The greatest commandment is love, love,
Given to us from above, above.
Love your God over earth, earth,
And everyone as yourself, yourself.
Love everyone as yourself.
Refrain:

2. In the beginning was Christ, Christ,
The father’s Word of Light, Light.
We were made in his Grace, Grace,
So let it shine in your face, your face.
O let it shine in your face.
Refrain:

3. Ever simple and true, true,
Christ alive within you, you.
Glory made manifest, manifest,
In us the Word was made flesh, made flesh.
In us the Word was made flesh.
Refrain:

love, it’s all because of love.

Refrain:
Because the world was made in love
By Christ and father God
To start and end as one.
It’s all because of love, love.
It’s all because of love.

Peace of Christ – Advent Week 2

Instrument: Tempo – Seagull Excursion Folk Acoustic Guitar

1. Peace is a song deep inside,
Taking the world by surprise.
You cannot understand
By the thinking of man,
For we sing the peace of Christ.

2. Order and harmony abide,
Even as changes come to light.
For the peace at its core
Is the heart of the score,
And we sing the Word of Life.

3. O let it ring out so clear,
Even if no one seems to hear.
Let your spirit rejoice;
Lift your hands and your voice,
For the Word is ever near.

Repeat 1.

For we sing the peace of Christ.
We sing the peace of Christ.
