More than I Should

Refrain:
I think of you more than I should.
It turns me upside-down,
But uh huh, the world looks good.
You can’t ignore the facts,
And I admit that
I think of you more than I should.

1. I walk the halls.
I climb the walls,
And you know, I don’t get much sleep at all.
And when I do,
I dream of you,
And my smile doesn’t try to hide the truth.
Refrain:

2. I pace the stairs
And play musical chairs,
While I dance with thoughts of you beyond compare.
And it’s all right,
‘Cause I see the light.
Could it be love sent from above? Uh huh, it might.
Refrain: (Twice)

Uh huh, you’re good,
So I think of you much more than I should.

You Bring Me Back

No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.
–Joshua 1:5 (NKJV)

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
–Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)

“What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.
–Luke 15:4-7 (NKJV)

You Bring Me Back – Lyrics

You bring me back to Yourself.

1. This world distracts,
Convincing me it has something I lack.
But You bring me back to Yourself.

2. This world confides,
Inviting me into the darkness inside.
But You bring me back to Yourself.
Refrain:

3. This world is frail.
It’s strong from a distance, and close up it fails.
But You bring me back to Yourself.

4. This world is Yours.
You make each illusion a lesson and more.
And You bring me back to Yourself.
Refrain:

You bring me back to Yourself.

Refrain:
You bring me back
And remind me that You never leave me.
You bring me back to Yourself.

I Wish for You

I wrote this song for someone’s birthday. But it applies to so many people for so many occasions! Springtime is a season of graduations, proms, weddings, and other beginnings. Enjoy, and share as directed–by Spirit.

1. When the rain comes pouring down,
May you have a boat so you don’t drown.
When blessings touch your open hands,
I hope you fill them up with all you can.
Refrain:

2. When the sun is shining bright,
May you grow in happiness and light.
And I hope you hear that restful call,
When the evening shadows fall.
Refrain:

3. When you’re feeling bad,
I hope a simple something makes you glad.
And find a little peace of mind,
No matter what this world provides.
Refrain: (Twice)

All these things and more, I wish for you. (Twice)

Refrain:
All these things and more (3x)
I wish for you.

Tender Touch

Happy Mother’s Day to moms and children alike! This song is not just for mothers, but moms will relate to it. May you feel God’s tender touch when you need it most!

1. You give me feelings,
And you make me care,
But God, I just don’t understand.
You make me hope
When I’m running in despair,
And I know that you must have a plan.

Refrain 1:
Oh can you tell me why, oh why
This life can hurt so much?
At every turn I cry and cry;
I’m reaching for your touch.

2. You give me love,
And you make me dream,
But everything is in my way.
You make me try,
When I only wanna scream.
And you let me live another day.
Refrain 1:

3. I’ll never know
The work you do
Until it’s all complete and done.
So I ask for patience,
Peace, and truth
To be what you’ve begun.

Refrain 2:
‘Cause only you know why, oh why
This life can hurt so much.
You hold me when I cry and cry,
And I feel your tender touch.

You give me feelings,
And you make me care.
And God, please help me understand.

Christ is risen!

He is risen, indeed!

Quotations from The Holy Bible, New King James Version (NKJV)

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
–John 11:25-26

For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
–Philippians 1:21

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.
–Philippians 2:5

I Am the Life – Lyrics

(Capo 1)

1. Dying to ourselves so we may come to live,
Accepting all the life that Christ alone can give,
Let the mind in us be the mind that was in him,
For Jesus said:
Refrain:

2. Jesus sacrificed so everyone may live,
When we pledge our lives, it’s the least that we can give,
Trading passing things for the greatest joy in him,
For Jesus said:
Refrain:

3. Everlasting life is not for just a few,
It belongs to everyone believing in the Truth,
Christ alive within is the resurrected proof,
For Jesus said:
Refrain: (Twice)

I am the life!

Refrain:
I’m the resurrection,
And I am the life.
If you believe in me,
You live even though you die.
And if you believe,
You will never die in me.
You will live, live, live, live,
For I give, give, give, give
Eternal life,
I am the life!

The Easter Egg Hunt

If you received this post by email, click the URL to hear this song.

I wrote a Christ-centered Easter song, of course. You’ll hear that tomorrow! But when I mentioned Easter songs, someone asked if it was about a chocolate egg. It wasn’t, at that point, but I couldn’t resist. This is a cautionary tale… May your Easter egg hunt be a happy one!

1. This is the tale of an Easter egg hunt
That did not end very well.
Tommy and Tina were looking for eggs
And had a sad story to tell.
They tried and they tried, but they could not find
An egg that hid in the grass.
And later that year it was perfectly clear,
The time for that egg had passed.

2. This is the tale of an Easter egg hunt.
Oh yes, there’s more to share.
Some of those eggs, they had chocolate inside,
So sweet and rich and rare.
Tommy and Tina, they found all the eggs.
And oh the joy they felt!
Chocolate on chocolate on chocolate eggs!
And then they started to melt.

3. This is the tale of an Easter egg hunt,
And if you really must ask it,
The moral is sure. It’s so simple and pure:
Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.

Easter Poem

Given This Day

We can’t really give anything to God. After all, God is infinite, so to say we can give Him/It anything, limits our perception of God.

However, what we can give up, mystically, is the idea of the personal ego, human mind, and the so-called free will we think it has. Free will is an illusion. Only Cosmic, Universal Consciousness (or God) is real. All other things, including the personal ego and our false ideas, pass away.

This song is about expanding our own consciousness, awareness, and focus by giving up the personal ego. In order to truly know God-reality and be aware of it, we must do this daily, and sometimes moment by moment, many times a day! By surrendering our soul, heart, and mind to God Consciousness, we experience oneness – not intellectually, mentally, emotionally, or physically – but throughout our entire being.

Oneness is our true, spiritual nature. And giving up that which is “less than,” is accomplished primarily through meditation. This song is another reminder and a tool for that purpose.

Given This Day – Lyrics

Instrument:
CGDA-tuned Acoustic Guitar

I give my soul to Peace
I give my soul to Love
I give my soul to bless
God’s Work below and above!
I give my soul to Good
I give my soul to Bliss
I give my soul to God
The All there Is!

‘Cause everything will pass away,
And only God will never change!

I give my heart to Peace
I give my heart to Love
I give my heart to bless
God’s Work below and above!
I give my heart to Good
I give my heart to Bliss
I give my heart to God
The All there Is!

‘Cause love and hurt and stress and pain
Are calling us to look within!

I give my mind to Peace
I give my mind to Love
I give my mind to bless
God’s Work below and above!
I give my mind to Good
I give my mind to Bliss
I give my mind to God
The All there Is!

‘Cause thinking does not make it so;
The Truth we seek is God to know!

I give my soul to Peace
I give my heart to Love
I give my mind to bless
God’s Work below and above!
I give my soul to Good
I give my heart to Bliss
I give my mind to God
The All there Is!

I am a Child of God
The All there Is!

Music Tells the Story

Another song written over 10 years ago that expresses more truth than I realized at the time. Listen to the songs on the radio today. And think back to songs you heard and/or enjoyed as a child or teenager. What do they all have in common? They tell the story of society’s values–or lack thereof–and paint a general picture of human consciousness.

For example, think about what, if anything, today’s songs say about the following:

Love relationships?

Money?

Health?

Stress?

Birth, life, and death?

Relaxation–or not!

When songs speak of these things, it’s usually in a negative way:

I lost my love and now he/she has to pay.

I’m broke. (The end i.e. therefore I am nothing)

I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired. But I can’t do anything about it so I’ll just complain…

I’m stressed, so I’ll escape into something else (drugs, alcohol, sex, shopping, even reading or watching movies. Oh, and coffee, anyone?)

Birth: Kids are expensive, another mouth to feed. And for women especially, pain, sacrifice, and a perceived loss of identity.

Life: What’s the point? I’m lost. Don’t know where to go but I want to return to where I’ve been. Living in the past, “The good ol’ days…” I.e. we don’t live in the present moment, even in our music!

Death: I want to die–in one breath. This world is not my home–but not said in a positive way. And yet, where will I go after death? And what about all my stuff?

Relax? Me? But what will I do then?

In short, songs are just as focused on negativity as, well, everything else we produce! And why is that? Because above all, we have a negative state of mind, heart, being, and personal identity.

Listen to even a few popular songs, and you’ll probably discover the same thing.

And so: I charge myself and fellow songwriters to picture something better: a spiritually whole, mentally sound, emotionally strong, and physically healthy person, and to hold this vision for every person. Holding this vision is why I’m a spiritually-oriented songwriter, and for this I give thanks!

And for everyone who listens to music, as most of us do, please, listen consciously! And start choosing music that lifts you up, instead of validating negativity.

Music Tells the Story – Lyrics

Instruments: Acoustic guitar, keyboard, soprano recorder.

1. In today’s society
Of fun, things and propriety,
The music tells a lot, you know,
Of when we come and where we go.
For all time, through many things,
The music tells the way it is.

2. In the 1920’s, too,
The people questioned what was true.
The music told of fun and dress,
Of things found out, and questions asked.
For all time, through many things,
The music tells the way it is.

3. Back when the whites owned the blacks
And stood whipping their tired backs,
The slave songs told of God’s great Peace,
For they knew they would leave this place.
For all time, through many things,
The music tells the way it is.

Repeat 1.
