She’ll never have my freckles;
He’ll never have your eyes.
Their names won’t find a tender song
In sweetest lullabies.
We’ve talked it out before;
We won’t speak of it again.
But our lack of precious children
Leaves a part of me in pain.

This is a pain that many endure silently as they go about their lives, seeing infants and children in stores, at church, at family gatherings. Thank you for giving voice to these women and yes, also men.

This is very moving – so much said in so few words. The rhyme and rhythm work well.
